For many guests, culinary catering is one of the reasons why they attend an event in the first place. So if you are planning to organize an event, you should not disregard this point. However, this does not mean that you have to offer your guests a five-course Michelin menu. Far less expensive options will suffice to wow visitors.
There are definitely some things to keep in mind, though. Let's take a direct look at what those are.
Orient yourself to the participants of the eventNotonly when it comes to catering, but when it comes to organizing in general, you should primarily orient yourself to the participants of the event. Only if you know who the guests are, you can design a catering tailored to your visitors. Important factors include the age of the guests, their ethnic background, religion or beliefs such as vegetarianism or veganism.
The social standing also plays a role, of course. An event for construction workers is not the same as an event for lawyers. So adjust the culinary offerings accordingly. Catering to the attendees is more important than ever in this day and age.
After all, there are now numerous dietary trends. You may need to cover some of them with the catering.
Also plan for cleanup afterwardsWhenplanning an event, many focus only on the program itself, completely forgetting that there are other important aspects. One of them is the cleanup afterwards. If you organise a big event, you also have to clean up thoroughly afterwards.
There is no way around that. In principle, you can hire helpers for this, but this will involve additional costs. In any case, you will have to clean the oven, remove trash and clean tables. If you have barbecued at all, there is also the cleaning of the grills.
For larger events, it's best to use grill cleaner for this to really get rid of all the stubborn grime.
Caterer or self-organization?For the catering you can either hire a caterer or do it yourself. However, you should be aware that organising it yourself is relatively expensive. With a good caterer, you often don't pay that much more than you would have paid for the food anyway. In view of the fact that you have to take care of less, these additional costs can be worthwhile.
Calculate the costs involvedIndependentlyof whether you organise the catering yourself or hire a caterer for this purpose - you should always calculate the costs involved exactly.
The costs for the catering are normally not fixed anyway. For alcoholic beverages, among other things, if you should offer any, the costs incurred are difficult to predict, at least with a caterer. In any case, you should make all the important calculations. After all, you certainly don't want to experience any nasty surprises.
And it is precisely the catering that can cause the costs of an event to soar. So calculate generously. That way, you at least know what to expect and you are prepared for it.
